What is EndermologieŽ?
EndermologieŽ is the world's first patented technology to fight
cellulite. It is the first cellulite treatment that has been
approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It
is a completely non-invasive treatment, and is now used all over
the world by clinics like ours as well as plastic & cosmetic
surgeons.
EndermologieŽ was developed in France by Louis-Paul Guitay in
the early 1980s and was originally used in the treatment of
burns to prevent skin contraction, and to loosen scar tissue.
During its initial use it was noticed that it improved the
appearance of cellulite and became widely used in France and USA
for aesthetic purposes.
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is best described as pockets of dimpled, localized
skin. It is caused by fat that is stored in adiposities (fat
cells in the hypodermis) which swell. The swelling distorts the
connective fibers which creates the 'orange peel' effect
associated with cellulite. This in turn, causes circulation in
the effected area to become sluggish, which causes a build up of
toxins along with congestion of the connective gel resulting in
unsightly localized cellulite.
Why EndermologieŽ?
Quite simply, the traditional methods of fighting cellulite are
generally ineffective on their own. Creams, lotions and even
surgical liposuction can have little or no effect on cellulite.
Exercise programs do not necessarily work as they tend to focus
on the muscle tissue deep within the body rather than the
surface layers of fat.
What does the treatment involve?
During the treatment you will wear a specially designed body
stocking. The therapist carries out the treatment with a hand
held massaging head, which delivers intermittent suction and
rolling to the area being treated. Most patients describe the
action as relaxing, as the motion of the unit relates to a deep
body massage. The treatment is completely non-invasive, the
rollers do all the work. Treatments normally last about 35
minutes.
How does it work?
In plain English, EndermologieŽ stimulates the bodies own
mechanisms for dealing with the cellulite in a way which other
methods can not. For those of you interested in the science,
here's how it works:
EndermologieŽ treats the cutaneous and subcutaneous connective
tissue. It targets cellulite by acting on the hypodermic
connective tissue, and promotes elimination of the toxins which
are present in the affected area. It stimulates cellular
exchanges as well as mobilizing the 'connective gel' in order to
restore its smoothness and fight the 'orange peel' appearance of
the skin. It reduces water retention by boosting the lymphatic
and venous systems. At the epidermis level, EndermologieŽ
performs an exfoliation and so eliminates dead skin cells,
restoring the skins natural radiance.
How many treatments will I need?
This will vary from patient to patient, but as a rough guide,
treatments are normally about 35 minutes long, twice a week, and
in blocks of 18 to 24 treatments. This can be discussed further
during your consultation.
Are there any restrictions on my diet during the treatments?
You are required to drink 8 glasses of water per day. You are
encouraged to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle but there are
no specific restrictions on your diet and there is no exercise
program enforced.
Is it permanent?
No, but after your initial course of treatments, you may find
that a 'maintenance schedule' of one or two treatments per month
is sufficient. Again this will vary from patient to patient. A
healthy diet and lifestyle will help to stop the return of
cellulite, and certainly won't do you any harm in the process!
Why does my skin look the way it does?
Your skin changes in appearance according to your age, hormonal
influences, and lifestyle. Texture, smoothness, and elasticity
can deteriorate over time, especially during pregnancy and
menopause, for example, when hormones are unbalanced.
What is going on beneath the surface of my skin?
Your connective tissues play an important role in maintaining
the appearance and tone of your skin. These tissues include
collagen and elastin fibers, which can become less supple with
age and lack of stimulation. Fat cells in this area can also
increase greatly in size as a result of improper lifestyle.
What can I do about those special problem areas: thighs,
saddlebags, and buttocks?
When you follow the healthy EndermologieŽ lifestyle program, you
will feel better about your appearance and experience many
positive effects on your "problem areas". Your fat deposits
beneath the surface will decrease in size when they are
influenced by adequate diet and exercise. In addition, your skin
will benefit from the massages, which improve local circulation,
relax the superficial muscles, and lift connective tissues.
How many treatments can I have in one week?
The average number of treatments is 1-3 per week. If you are
simultaneously in the process of losing a significant amount of
weight or if you have a long-term problematic cellulite
condition, one treatment per week is recommended. More than two
sessions per week will not bring faster results.
How long does a session last?
Do you just work on my problem areas? Sessions last an average
of 35-45 minutes. Your problem areas are focused on, but time is
given to other areas to stimulate general circulation and
elimination.
How many sessions before I see results?
Usually people see changes within 6 or 8 sessions, but 20 is the
average number of suggested treatments.
How long do I have to wait after liposuction or a tummy tuck to
receive a treatment?
Before receiving a treatment consult your practitioner. Usually,
you must wait until the compressive garments come off.
Does this replace diet and exercise?
No. In fact, it is highly recommended that you add diet and
exercise to the routine you follow while undergoing EndermologieŽ
treatments. In most cases, this improves results.
Does this treatment work on men also?
Definitely. For problem areas such as "love handles" and loose
pectoral tissues, results have been excellent.
Why do you have to wear pantyhose?
Pantyhose allows the EndermologieŽ treatment head to glide more
easily over the body and insures optimal hygiene.
Does the machine tone the skin? Will I lose weight?
You will most likely notice an improvement in skin tone after
using the machine. Appearance of stretch marks and loose skin
may be improved. It is not a weight loss machine. However, many
clients report being able to lose weight, especially fat weight,
more easily while using the machine than they ever could before.
What is the difference between EndermologieŽ and liposuction?
Can it be used instead of liposuction?
EndermologieŽ, unlike liposuction, does not involve breaking
through the skin in any way. Some people try EndermologieŽ first
and then choose to wait to receive liposuction. Some choose to
receive both as part of a dual treatment to their problem.
EndermologieŽ is being used and studied by some of the most
well-known practitioners of liposuction in the world.
What sensations will I experience during the treatment? Does it
hurt?
The sensation is similar to a deep massage. Most clients find it
quite pleasant. The strength of the treatment can be
individually adjusted to your comfort level.
Are there any side effects?
Minor, temporary bruising may occur.
Can I receive treatments if I am pregnant?
No correlation has been found between EndermologieŽ and
complications in pregnancy. However, it is recommended that
during pregnancy you do NOT receive treatments.
